Hi, Just to be clear, Chris is the author of the Teaching Tracks materials - it is his brainchild. Carol (that's me) however, works on the copyediting, design, and illustrations for the books as well as this website (hence author of the posts here). =)
Themed lessons/activities inspired by David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’ Theme – Boundaries
Lessons themed on Pink Floyd’s Money. Theme – ‘Money’
Themed lessons/activities inspired by Katy Perry’s Roar. Theme ‘Empowerment’
Chris will be speaking at his umpteenth IATEFL conference in April later this year, based around the second book project 20/20 Vision. Exploring social issues through songs in the classroom.
This workshop on how the project uses songs to highlight meaningful cultural and societal themes and issues. Chris hopes that all attendees will get stuck in and share their ideas on suitable songs and how to use them in order to produce learning materials that both inform and educate young and adult students.
ELT Conference, Malta 2019
Chris and Carol co-facilitated their second workshop in October 2019. The theme focused on the use of songs to empower students to understand and talk about social and personal issues in English.
Here is a snippet of the workshop
EdYouFest, Somerset 2019
Chris presented at the EdYouFest conference earlier in August. His session was moved to the Tuesday, and in a room that catered 14, twice as many attendees turned up! As we did in Birmingham, copies of the limited Singles were given away and more went on sale. There are now less than 20 copies of each left, so there is still time if you want to get your own copy.
And if you missed out on the talk, here are some video highlights from Chris’s How to Teach Tracks.
NATECLA, Birmingham 2019
Carol and Chris co-facilitated their first joint workshop, a Why to & How to Guide to using songs in ESOL at the NATELCA conference. We think it’s fair to say, judging by the interactive attendees and their feedback, that it was a hit! Plus the Singles quiz/giveaway was good fun!
IATEFL Liverpool 2019
Chris ran a workshop on using Beatles’ songs, showcasing different teachers’ ideas. If you were at the conference, and went along to Chris’s workshop, you’d have heard a quite a collection of ideas from other ELT teachers to share!
Chris was at the Independent Authors and Publishers stall, Stand 2, Thursday 15:50-16:20.
Chris was a guest speaker at the Aschehoug’s English Teacher Conference, Norway 2019
What a brilliant experience in Norway! I was invited to talk to over 150 English teachers in secondary schools on how to use song lyrics in the classroom and to share practical examples/hand-outs that teachers can use in their English classes. Read more about it here.
