EdYouFest Video Workshop 6
@13.00 BST, Friday 21st August

This workshop is entitled Exploitation… but it’s not about the zero-hours contracts and dodgy terms & conditions that dominate the teaching profession! Instead, it is about looking at what can be done with the resource of songs & song lyrics and how we can exploit all that this resource has to offer, not only for our students benefit but also our own.

In the News

IATEFL Harrogate 2021

As you are no doubt aware, IATEFL has been cancelled this year.

Chris will deliver his talk “20/20 Vision, Exploring social issues through songs in the classroom” at the next IATEFL in Harrogate 2021.

The talk focuses on how to use songs to highlight meaningful cultural and societal themes and issues.

ELT Conference, Malta 2019

Chris and Carol co-facilitated their second joint workshop in October 2019. The theme focused on the use of songs to empower students to understand and talk about social and personal issues in English.

Here is a snippet of the workshop

EdYouFest, Somerset 2019

Chris presented at the EdYouFest conference earlier in August. His session was moved to the Tuesday, and in a room that catered 14, twice as many attendees turned up! As we did in Birmingham, copies of the limited Singles were given away and more went on sale. There are now less than 20 copies of each left, so there is still time if you want to get your own copy.

And if you missed out on the talk, here are some video highlights from Chris’s How to Teach Tracks.

NATECLA, Birmingham 2019

Carol and Chris co-facilitated their first joint workshop, a Why to & How to Guide to using songs in ESOL at the NATELCA conference. We think it’s fair to say, judging by the interactive attendees and their feedback, that it was a hit! Plus the Singles quiz/giveaway was good fun!

IATEFL Liverpool 2019

Chris ran a workshop on using Beatles’ songs, showcasing different teachers’ ideas. If you were at the conference, and went along to Chris’s workshop, you’d have heard a quite a collection of  ideas from other ELT teachers to share!
Chris was at the Independent Authors and Publishers stall, Stand 2, Thursday 15:50-16:20.

Chris was a guest speaker at the  Aschehoug’s English Teacher Conference, Norway 2019

What a brilliant experience in Norway! I was invited to talk to over 150 English teachers in secondary schools on how to use song lyrics in the classroom and to share practical examples/hand-outs that teachers can use in their English classes.
